It's Snow Day #2. I'm home from work with the 3 boys--it's a perfect day for my first Stitch Fix to arrive! Please see my previous post for a detailed description. (I'd link to it here, but I'm not sure how. Scroll down?) Here is the package on my doorstep:
Big thanks to my husband for apparently shoveling the walk before he left for work this morning! The 7 year-old insisted that I post some rare "before" footage of what I actually wear on snow days, so, at the risk of ending my career as a fashion blogger, here it is:
Moving right along. (No, really--this "Fix" couldn't have arrived too soon.) I opened the box and read the little note that my "stylist" wrote for me. His name is Octavio. He seemed particularly excited about the "striped puffy vest," so I decided to try it on first. He said "the look would pair nicely with the Level 99 pants and tall boots for a cozy yet chic look perfect for lunch with friends." We're in business!
Um. Maybe show business? I admit that I don't really understand vests--why a jacket without sleeves? But it did cover the stains on my white shirt, so it could probably revive a few pieces in my wardrobe--but it's a little expensive for a stain hider. And it's actually a little big. Here are my photographer's unedited responses to the vest:
Moving along. The observant among you may notice that the vest was paired with a very long, gray skirt that you haven't seen on me before (unless you were on my Israel trip in '88, in which case you saw me wear a similar skirt at the Western Wall.) This is the "Chris & Carol Maxi Skirt," and I love the soft, flowy fabric, but I'm still on the fence about the style. The weird thing is that the skirt looks completely different in the different pictures.
So far, the skirt seemed pretty good. It's definitely what my husband would call the "Shtetyl Chic" look--you know, like they wore in the Old Country and in Fiddler on the Roof, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The problem is that the skirt actually gets the "Ugs"--like Seinfeld's girlfriend who looked great from some angles but bad from others. Seriously. I don't even want to post most of the pictures. Here's a tiny one:
As you can see, the skirt goes from cute to Ug pretty darn fast. I think I'm going to return it, but I welcome feedback. Quick, save your eyes with my other son's cute but ambiguous reaction:
Ooh-wee. This is a long post. Good thing I'm pretending he's napping right now and not just singing in his bed while the other boys watch The Avengers. I'm a great mom.
There are also some very cute earrings in the package that are a lot more expensive then most of my daily work earrings, but they are also exactly what I've been looking for to go with some gold-colored necklaces. This is the real cost of Stitch Fix; instead of buying things on sale as I usually do, I get tempted to spend a bit more but it's a LOT more convenient and the stuff is nicer. I think these earrings are worth it.
(By the way, the elephant isn't part of the earrings. And, contrary to what my photographer says, they're not "elephant poop" earrings. I like them!)

Item #4 were some stretchy black pants called the "Krissy Black Skinny Pant." Somewhere on the label they said "endless stretch," which cracked me up. (I'm going to try to find a way to work "Skinny pants with endless stretch" into my poetry lesson on oxymorons.) Anyway, these actually fit and they were pretty cute--at least the little part that would be revealed between a long shirt and tall boots was cute--but they were way too expensive and I have a lot of black pants. They're pictured below, though.
Item #5 is my favorite. It's the "Dellon Chiffon Trim Striped Thermal"--and it's right in my comfort zone! (It's in my comfort zone along with the other 20 horizontal stripe shirts I own, but I'm ignoring those.) This shirt is cozy, washable, and it has a cool chiffon trim--a little country, a little rock and roll. And it works with the ironic boots!

Needless to say, I'm sort of in love with Stitch Fix. I'm keeping only 2.5 items (skirt?) but it was totally worth it. Thanks to my snow day and relatively patient children for making this post possible!
